It’s finally HERE! I truly wait for this trip for the entire year. This morning we left so early, but it’s weird how we don’t seem to care. I was so excited that the hour seemed irrelevant. The drive wasn’t too long. I love getting to know people, jammin' in the buses, and just talking about random stuff. I heard rumor of one CD being thrown out the window [a summer trip tradition if a song contains inappropriate content!], but I didn’t personally experience it. Luckily. When we stopped at the rest stops it felt a little bit like we were being baked in an oven, which made the weather here in San Diego that much sweeter. Before we came to the church we went to a beautiful green hill that looked over a bay. It was awesome to just be kids again. Wrestling. Rolling down the hill. Racing, not to win but just to feel the freedom and release of moving your legs. Kart wheels. For a second I just stopped and watched everyone playing. There’s nothing like the carefree joy of that kind of raw, unplanned playfulness.
At times I seem to doubt God in all of His glory and power, thinking there’s no way He could move in us the way He has in the past. The way He worked was too great for it to happen again. His power and love crash into, like waves on the shore, and overwhelm us each and every year. I haven’t been let down yet. So whether I think it can happen or not, I know God’s going to work in each of us in such a real way this week, taking us by the hand and leading us into radical life change through His power. In many of our lives, very rarely are we so intentional about our pursuit of God. And when we do the beautiful work of actively seeking Him, He gives us blessings upon blessings; the good never stops flowing. I can’t wait for this week, and I know that He will do great things in and through each and every one of us.
Today was HOT! And kind of tiring, just because of the long van/bus rides. My experience was good today. I met some new people on the rides and it was fun. My expectation for the trip is just to have fun and spend time with God and grow. I am looking forward to helping people with our projects. I am looking forward to what’s in store for the rest of the week.
