This is my first summer trip, so every surprise is an even bigger adventure for me because I am clueless to everything, but I absolutely love it!

Today was our first work day of the week, and that’s where the real excitement really began. We all were spilt up in our small groups and then got ready for our work projects to be accomplished. Some of our groups went to a church to sand and paint doors, some went to food banks, while others pulled weeds. One way or another we were helping clean the community and we opened up our hearts to what really matters during this point in our trip.

My small group went to the church, where we had about eight doors to sand and then paint. It was so fun doing this because I felt like Tim Allen on Home Improvement, working like nobody’s business. Others were assigned to sand the rusted railings, and to sand the entrance gates - that takes major strength to be stuck under Mr. Sun for about three hours, but they held it together and kicked butt.

Workday-2

It was not only about cleaning and beautifying the campus area, but to build friendships, show work ethic, get some sun rays, and have a good time with the people you love and care about the most. The Lord has brought us on this trip to bring us closer to our wonderful leaders, our friends, new friends, and to God himself. He knows exactly what he wants us to do to succeed in life and doing these work projects are just one step into being a better person. There are more work days in the week to come and I am even more excited than ever, even though I am definitely breaking a sweat, this is all so worth it.

Today after waking up and doing our daily devotions, we ate some tasty French toast prepared by Pastor Garman and the kitchen crew. I had five slices because they were so good. After breakfast we split up and headed to our job sites to report to our first day at work.

There were three sites: the food bank, a church to put on a new roof and re-landscape, and another church to do some all around fix-up. I went to the church to do the all around handy work. Most of us were given sandpaper and scrapers to take of the rust off of gates and window bars, but I was given a sander to take the old stain off of all the doors. After all the doors were sanded, they were taken to another crew to be painted with a primer. I’m pretty sure the doors will be painted with their final coat tomorrow. After I was done sanding, me and a couple of other people went upstairs to the conference room to tape off doorways and prepare the room to be painted a real pretty blue tomorrow. I can’t wait to see how that room turns out with its new coat of paint.

After the van ride back from the work site, we all had some grilled cheese sandwiches. Since I have a big appetite, I had four of them (I can never get enough of Pastors food!). After lunch Neil surprised us by telling us that we were going to the beach! So we walked all of the three blocks to the beach and enjoyed ourselves in the ocean for a couple of hours. What a great time, I hope we go back again! But now we are back at the church that we are staying at and us guys are waiting for all of the girls to get out of the showers (I might be here a while longer).

Beach-1

We are all having fun here in this AMAZING weather but we also can’t wait to see you guys again. See you on Saturday!
